It’s been three years

Today, three years ago, we signed over our house in Höör, drove from Sweden to France and started our first house-sit assignment.

At first I wrote four years – maybe because so much has happened during these years, or maybe because my math-skills aren’t perfect…

Last night Anders started showing old blog posts, and so many memories came back from our years of traveling, house sitting, exploring and living a different way than before. I don’t think he even was aware of the anniversary, he just likes to bring out those memories and tresure them now and then. It’s also a great way to remember people we’ve met, stories we’ve heard and stay grateful to it all.

The journey of changing our lifestyle, trying out a new attitude towards living, and taking huge leaps of faith started long before 2014 though.

We’ve worked a lot with our dreams and visions for our lives, daring to question what’s actually important and what’s not. And we still are. Though we’re now back in Sweden, living a rather ordinary life, we still ask ourselves what we love doing, what’s important and remind ourselves we don’t have to do things just because we think it’s “expected” from us.

Last night we started to talk about the arrival of our baby in February next year, and again we realized it’s impossible to know what life’s going to look like after that. We simply can’t plan because we’ve got no idea of how it will effect us, what our baby’s going to need and what new great ideas and possibilities might come along. (ok, we do understand the basic needs of a newborn baby, but we don’t know who this little individual is).

We could go on posting tons of photos, but here are just a few from our adventures the past years.

So we’ll just keep balancing through life, putting one foot in front of the other.

Self coaching and getting help

A friend of mine use to tell me she thinks I am good at coaching myself in life. And, yes I am – at times. Other times I am no good at it at all.

During those “other times” I take help from friends, family and professionals to remember who I am, what I need, want and how to continue taking care of myself. 
Most of us get out of “balance” or alignment ever so often throughout our lives. Another friend called it to be ‘out of sync’ last week, and my experience is that it really can feel like that. So most people need some guidence from time to time.

A book, a podcast or an interview by/with a person we are inspired by can be a great reminder or help for us to ask the questions we need or do the basic things for us to get back into sync sooner rather than later.

Earlier this year I had a rather negative attitude towards… Well, pretty much everything, so I started going to several of my guides more actively again.

  • I listened to the audio book “The monk who sold his Ferrari” by Robin Sharma during daily walks.
  • On Youtube I watched/listened to talks and guided meditations with Mooji and Eckhart Tolle before going to sleep.
  • Started (again) to read newsletters by the Swedish coaches Anders Haglund and Olof Röhlander. Both are former professional athletes.
  • Checked out one of my body movement inspirations (Naprapatjonas) on Instagram more frequently and started reading his blog again.

You might have your own guides and mentors already, or you feel inspired to find a new one. They’re all around us, and we need only to be open to see and hear when someone or something makes us feel moved in a good way to understand we might have found something valuable.

Nature is always a good place to be!

When I am extremely tired or in some other way put out of natural physical balance, my inner guide usually goes away to someplace Nice and it’s more important than eder for me to ask for help to stay friendly towards myself and keep my priorities right.

Good groceries to inspire to eat good food.

I literally make a short list of my basic needs or ask someone to help me stick to the basics: sleep, eat, have fun and move my body. If nothing else works – that’s a good base to just stay above the surface. Then I can add small goals like eating more vegetables, going to the gym or call a friend.

Again: the little things

From our traveling life to a more “common” lifestyle with work, routines and a (or two) more long-term place to stay.

During the past four weeks I’ve been working full time, living at friends’ and going home to Aspö and Anders during the weekends. It’s rather intense and I meet a lot of people while working, and yet I feel like it’s vacation quite often!

Maybe it’s because I appreciate many of the the small things, like bringing my own high quality coffee to work, or that I make sure to exercise regularly, or because I am outside daily and love to be able to take a swim after work.

Simply put, I do what I can to notice all the good in life, make sure to take care of myself with enough sleep, good food and routines, and to play with the daily to-dos and not get too stuck in “should, could, would”.

Whatever the combination is, part of it is to take care of the basics to make sure this person is well, and to remember and notice beauty in the little everyday things.

And for me, it’s very important to play, learn new things and to be around people I love.

Today a new little dog moved in with us here at the place where we’re dog- and house sitting in Flores. One of the  neighbors is going away and her dog is staying with us the remaining weeks until we leave the island.

It’s always a bit of a challenge to find balance in a new setting, no matter if it’s a new place, a person coming to visit or adapting to a new member of the pack.

In this case, the dogs know each other but we’ve only had one of them with us and the whole constellation is new. So, as humans, we need to figure the little one out and see how things changes when having the two dogs together. For little Irviljish it’s new to be with us and she needs to find out what we’re like.

Now, we’re lucky to have the dogs help us highlight what’s happening in most constellations – when a place, a team member or conditions change, there’s a shift happening. The balance is lost for a short period before everything falls into place again. We often talk about finding ones role in a group, seeing the possibilities in a change or to figure out how to handle whatever comes flying in life.
